Six months old. Half a year. I can honestly say that this has been the best six months ever; time has never flown by so fast. It’s hard to think about how much you have changed since the day we met you. Ever since you came into our lives, momma and dad have been on cloud nine, excited every morning to wake up and see what new thing you will do. We put you to bed and thirty minutes later we are telling each other how much we miss you. Every night I want to go wake you up and bring you to bed with us or hold you. But of course I don’t.
Your smiles, they never get old. This month, your smiles are usually accompanied by your tongue sticking out and your eyebrows raised. The best. When you get excited, you love to fling your face down. Sometimes the floor/bathtub/hard toy get in your way and your excitedness quickly turns into crying. The worst. What’s my most favorite new thing this month? You raising your arms for us to pick you up. It melts me everytime. I promised you the other day that I will never not hold you for no reason if you want to be held. Oh boy, that’s a big promise to live up to 🙂
You have officially found your feet. When we lay you on your back to change your diaper, you love to chew on your toes. This makes getting the new diaper on a challenge without making you mad. You also love to play on your belly naked after your nightly baths. Trying to get a diaper on you is already a task.
You have two freckles. One on your left wrist and one on your left shoulder blade. Cutest little freckles I ever have seen. Oh and you have TWO teeth! We were so excited for the first one that we didn’t even notice the second one coming in right after. Your dad would want me to mention that he found the first one 🙂 We were at whole foods prepping to start solids soon when he noticed it.
You have been extra clingy to both mama and dad lately. Teething? Because you are getting smarter and more aware? Probably. Who knows but I sure don’t mind it. You like it when we sit right next to you when you’re playing on the floor with your toys. Speaking of that: you now think it’s fun to pull your self up on your wooden activity center if your sitting in front of it. You also do it when we’re sitting on the floor reading to you. You use the book to stand up. Every. Single. Time. we turn the page. And every single time you do it you get this proud look on your face, tongue sticking out of course. By the way, you have become a rock star at sitting up on your own.
Just recently, you have learned how to get up on your hands and knees. You rock back and forth, then lunging forward into a belly flop. Soon enough you will be crawling, but for right now you just army crawl to where you need to go.
Stats: 16 lbs ( 54%) 26 inches tall (48%). Her four month shots caused a fever for 24 hours, so I’m hoping she does better with her six month ones!
Hair: Blonde and still going everywhere.
Diapers: still is in size twos until we run out, then on to threes!
Clothes: Still in 3-6 month and 6 month clothes. I have started ordering her 6-12 month clothes for this summer. Since its a wider range of time, I feel like it’s ok to buy more 🙂
Eating: I am so happy that I was able to exclusively breastfeed her for the first six months. My favorite thing (especially when she is tired) is that she raises her little arm up and strokes my face and hair with her hand as she nurses. If my hair is up, sweet girl seriously gets irritated until I let it down. She is now nursing closer to every three hours during the day and we are prepping to start SOLIDS! By prepping I mean spending a whole entire weekend plus some making purées. Some of it which she probably won’t like. It was a lot of work but was actually a lot of fun. Aaron helped me of course. He had been excited to start back when we registered for all of the supplies. We made butternut squash, zucchini, sweet potato, brocolli, beats, carrots, peas, mango, pears, apples, bluberries, and avocado. Stella’s first meal will be oatmeal then we will start with some of the veggies!
Sleeping: Sweet girl still is a great sleeper. We start our bedtime routine at 7 and like to make sure she’s asleep by 8 since she has been getting up at 7:30 every morning. When she wakes up, she just lays in her crib and talks to her self until we come get her. She loves to look up at all of her books on her bookshelf. If we let her, she would be content in there for an hour all by herself. Still a belly sleeper, but she has been falling asleep on her side a lot lately like her mama 🙂 She always has her lovey in one hand and a thumb in her mouth. Depending on what time she gets up in the morning and what our day looks like, she either takes two or three naps. Naps usually last anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours. We always make sure she is awake from 4 pm to bedtime.
